De protestantse, voormalig gereformeerde Petruskapel op de Staart aan het Plein 40-45 in Dordrecht, wordt verkocht aan de Alevitische Culturele Vereniging Dordrecht, die – volgens de voorzitter van de kerkenraad – “is geworteld op de Staart”.
Het is de bedoeling dat in juli de definitieve koopovereenkomst tussen de twee partijen wordt getekend als alle benodigde stappen zijn gezet. Onlangs werd deze mededeling in beide kerken gedaan door de voorzitter van de kerkenraad van de Wilhelminakerk/Petruskapel.
Vanaf november 2023 werd gezocht naar een koper voor het gebouw, waarvoor ook een gespecialiseerde makelaar werd ingeschakeld: Reliplan. Zeven organisaties deden uiteindelijk een bod. Een beoordelingscommissie – waarin vertegenwoordigers van drie kerkelijke organisaties zaten, zoals de wijkkerkenraad Wilhelminakerk/Petruskapel, het College van Kerkrentmeesters en de Algemene Kerkenraad van de Protestantse Gemeente Dordrecht – beoordeelde de kandidaten. Uiteindelijk viel de keus op de Alevitische Culturele Vereniging Dordrecht.
Het is de bedoeling dat de protestantse kerkdiensten in de rest van 2024 gewoon doorgang vinden.
De koper.
Bij de zoektocht naar een geschikte koper van het kerkgebouw ging het om een religieuze bestemming plus een wijkfunctie. De makelaar zocht daarvoor de (eerste) kandidaten. Tevens werd aangegeven dat organisaties, die de Petruskapel momenteel gebruiken, eventueel na 1 januari nog door kunnen gaan. Daarover kunnen met de nieuwe eigenaar afspraken worden gemaakt. De opzet is namelijk om vanaf 1 januari 2025 ook andere gebruikers de ruimte geven om de Petruskapel te blijven benutten.
Op internet wordt het Alevitisme omschreven als een ondogmatische vorm van het Islamitische geloof. Alevieten onderscheiden zich van de dominante islamitische stromingen – Soennitische en Sjiitische Islam – door hun (religieus-) humanistische levensopvatting.
Op de website van de Alevitische Culturele Vereniging Dordrecht staat onder meer de volgende info: “De vereniging is in 1995 opgericht en heeft op dit moment rond de honderd leden, verdeeld over zeventig families. Het hoofddoel van de vereniging is om de eeuwenoude Alevitische cultuur, geloof en filosofie te doen voortleven en dit zo goed mogelijk in vrede, met liefde, wederzijds respect en tolerantie te profileren in de Nederlandse maatschappij”.
De voorzitter van de Protestantse kerkenraad benadrukte nog dat er géén moskee komt in de Petruskapel.

The Protestant, formerly ‘gereformeerde’, Petrus Chapel, located at Plein 40-45 in Dordrecht’s Staart neighborhood, has been sold to the Alevi Cultural Association of Dordrecht, which, according to the chairman of the church council, “is rooted in the Staart.”
The final purchase agreement between the two parties is expected to be signed in July, once all necessary steps have been completed. This announcement was recently made in both churches by the chairman of the church council of the ‘Wilhelminakerk/Petrus Chapel’.
Since November 2023, a buyer for the building has been sought, with the assistance of a specialized real estate agent: Reliplan. Seven organizations ultimately made offers. A selection committee, which included representatives from three church organizations, such as the district church council Wilhelminakerk/Petrus Chapel, the College of Church Administrators, and the General Church Council of the Protestant Congregation of Dordrecht, evaluated the candidates. In the end, the choice fell on the ‘Alevi Cultural Association of Dordrecht’.
It is intended that Protestant church services will continue throughout the rest of 2024.
The Buyer.
The search for a suitable buyer for the church building emphasized a religious purpose and a community function. The real estate agent sought out the initial candidates. It was also indicated that organizations currently using the Petrus Chapel might continue to do so after January 1st. Agreements on this can be made with the new owner. The plan is to allow other users to continue using the Petrus Chapel from January 1, 2025.
Alevitism is described online as a non-dogmatic form of the Islamic faith. Alevis distinguish themselves from the dominant Islamic branches—Sunni and Shia Islam—by their (religious) humanistic worldview.
The website of the ‘Alevi Cultural Association of Dordrecht’ provides the following information: “The association was founded in 1995 and currently has about a hundred members, spread across seventy families. The main goal of the association is to preserve the centuries-old Alevi culture, faith, and philosophy and to promote it as well as possible in peace, with love, mutual respect, and tolerance within Dutch society.”
The chairman of the Protestant church council emphasized that no mosque will be established in the Petrus Chapel.
