Al eerder berichtten we over het feit dat de kerkenraad van de Protestantse Gemeente Veenendaal besloot te stoppen met het luiden van de klokken van de protestantse (v/m gereformeerde) Petrakerk.

De reden daarvan is dat het bovenste deel van de toren in slechte conditie verkeert. De burgerlijke gemeente Veenendaal is nu zo bezorgd over de veiligheid dat dranghekken rond de toren geplaatst moeten worden.

In januari worden de klokken uit de toren gehaald en wordt de draagconstructie verwijderd, waarna het bovenste deel van het metselwerk wordt gesloopt, zodat alles weer veilig is. Daarna  worden de hekken weer weggehaald en zal de kerkenraad zich beraden over het terugplaatsen van de klokken en over de vraag hoe de nieuwe torenspits er uit moet zien.

Repair of the Church Tower of Petrakerk in Veenendaal.

We previously reported that the church council of the Protestant Congregation of Veenendaal decided to stop ringing the bells of the Protestant (formerly ‘gereformeerde’) Petrakerk.

The reason for this decision is the poor condition of the upper part of the tower. The civil municipality of Veenendaal is now so concerned about safety that barricades must be placed around the tower.

In January, the bells will be removed from the tower, and the supporting structure will be dismantled. After that, the upper part of the masonry will be demolished to ensure safety. Once this work is completed, the barricades will be removed, and the church council will deliberate on reinstalling the bells and deciding what the new tower spire should look like.
