In december 2024 besloot de gemeenteraad van Voorschoten om het nieuwe cultuurcentrum onder te brengen in de voormalige gereformeerde ‘Kruispuntkerk, waar op 5 juli 2020 de laatste dienst gehouden werd.
De Kruispuntkerk, was de redenering, “krijgt zo een duurzame bestemming, waardoor de cultuursector verstrekt wordt en de aantrekkelijkheid van het centrum van Voorschoten wordt verbeterd”.
Aanvankelijk zou de gemeente de kerk gaan huren van de eigenaar, maar het College van B en W vond het belangrijk om de nodige verbouwing tegen aanvaardbare kosten te realiseren. Daarom stelde het voor om het complex te kopen in plaats van te huren. Dat zou de verbouwingskosten drukken.
Bovendien is de koop van de kerk en van het bijbehorende wijkgebouw gunstiger dan huren. Ook gaat de gemeente structureel investeren in het complex. De waarde die zo wordt toegevoegd blijft dan behouden als eigen bezit. Met deze nieuwe benadering komt het woongebouw, dat aanvankelijk naast de kerk geplaatst zou worden, te vervallen.
Een extra voordeel is dat de gemeente met de aankoop van het complex ook eigenaar wordt van het plein voor de kerk. Als de gemeente het plein in de toekomst opnieuw zou willen inrichten, is zij niet afhankelijk van een andere eigenaar. Een ander gevolg van de koop is wel dat de bouw van de nieuwe woningen op de plek van het huidige bijgebouw niet doorgaat.
Definitief besluit.
De gemeenteraad heeft nu op 12 februari 2026 ingestemd met de aankoop en daarmee geeft de gemeente direct vervolg aan de realisatie van het plan. Culturele organisaties voor muziek, toneel, dans en film die nu elders zijn gehuisvest kunnen naar verwachting vanaf juli 2027 hun intrek nemen in het nieuwe cultuurcentrum. Ook andere organisaties kunnen dan van de faciliteiten gebruikmaken.

In December 2024, the municipal council of Voorschoten decided to establish the new cultural center in the former ‘gereformeerde’ “Kruispunt Church,” where the last service was held on July 5, 2020.
The reasoning was that the Kruispunt Church would thus be given a sustainable new purpose, strengthening the cultural sector and enhancing the attractiveness of Voorschoten’s town center.
Initially, the municipality intended to rent the church from the owner. However, the Municipal Executive (Mayor and Aldermen) considered it important to carry out the necessary renovations at acceptable costs. Therefore, it proposed purchasing the complex instead of renting it, as this would reduce renovation expenses.
Moreover, buying the church and the accompanying community building is more advantageous than renting. The municipality will also invest structurally in the complex. The value added in this way will remain municipal property. With this new approach, the residential building that was originally planned next to the church will no longer be constructed.
An additional advantage is that by purchasing the complex, the municipality also becomes the owner of the square in front of the church. If the municipality wishes to redesign the square in the future, it will not be dependent on another owner. However, one consequence of the purchase is that the construction of new housing on the site of the current annex will not proceed.
Final Decision.
On February 12, 2026, the municipal council approved the purchase, enabling the municipality to immediately proceed with the implementation of the plan. Cultural organizations for music, theatre, dance, and film that are currently housed elsewhere are expected to move into the new cultural center from July 2027 onward. Other organizations will also be able to make use of the facilities at that time.
