De gereformeerde Maranathakerk aan de Sparrenlaan 4 in Ermelo gaat op termijn dicht.

De Maranathakerk in Ermelo wordt namelijk te koop aangeboden, zo heeft de kerkenraad van de Gereformeerde Kerk Ermelo bekendgemaakt. Het besluit om het iconische kerkgebouw, inclusief de toren nabij de Harderwijkerweg, in de verkoop te zetten, is genomen vanwege het dalende aantal gemeenteleden in de afgelopen jaren.

De kerk aan de Sparrenlaan heeft met de verminderende opkomst van kerkgangers te maken gehad, wat heeft geleid tot een afname van de behoefte aan het gebouw. De kerkenraad heet daarom, na zorgvuldige overweging, besloten om afscheid te nemen van de Maranathakerk, die jarenlang een belangrijk middelpunt van de gemeenschap in Ermelo was.

De verkoop van het gebouw markeert een nieuw hoofdstuk voor De Gereformeerde Kerk Ermelo, die zich nu richt op het zoeken naar een meer passende ruimte voor haar activiteiten. Er wordt nog onderzocht wat de toekomst van het kerkgebouw zal zijn, zowel wat betreft de verkoop als de eventuele herbestemming van het pand.

De Maranathakerk, met zijn karakteristieke toren, heeft lange tijd een centrale rol gespeeld in het religieuze en culturele leven van de stad. Het besluit om het gebouw van de hand te doen, is dan ook een ingrijpende stap voor zowel de kerkelijke gemeente als de lokale gemeenschap.

De Gereformeerde Kerk te Ermelo zal na de verkoop van de Maranathakerk alleen nog de beschikking hebben over de Immanuelkerk aan de Stationsstraat 137.

Omdat vanaf nu een paar processen tegelijkertijd gaan spelen, zoals na de verkoop de aanpassing van de inrichting van de Immanuelkerk kunnen we nog niet precies aanduiden wanneer de laatste dienst gehouden zal gaan worden.
