Na ruim een jaar bouwtijd is de uitbreiding van de protestantse (voormalig gereformeerde) Marktpleinkerk aan het Marktplein in Hoofddorp klaar en in gebruik genomen. De feestelijke opening van de uitbreiding vindt op zondag 25 mei plaats.
Door de nieuwbouw is een mooie eigen plek voor de jeugd tot stand komen. En verder is er door de vergroting van de kerk veel ruimte gekomen voor ontmoeting en voor de ondersteunende functies zoals een keuken. In het oorspronkelijke kerkgebouw waren deze voorzieningen bijna niet aanwezig.
De uitbreiding is gebouwd met een volledig houten constructie. Verschillende materialen zijn hergebruikt en het verwarmingssysteem werkt zonder gas. De uitbreiding is hiermee duurzaam en toekomstbestendig. Met de vernieuwing van de Marktpleinkerk krijgt dit iconische gebouw op een centrale plek in Hoofddorp, een toekomstperspectief.
Het ontwerp van de uitbreiding is gemaakt door Liesbeth van der Pol van Dok Architecten. Ze is daarbij zorgvuldig te werk gegaan en heeft rekening gehouden met het bestaande kerkgebouw, met de sfeer en de locatie.
Opmerkelijk voor deze tijd is bovendien dat een kerk (zeker op deze schaal) wordt uitgebreid. Landelijk tonen de cijfers aan dat het aantal kerkgangers daalt en dat kerkgebouwen gesloten worden, maar het kerkbestuur vindt deze stap belangrijk voor de toekomst van de kerk en van de Protestantse Gemeente.

Renovation of Market Square Church in Hoofddorp completed.
After more than a year of construction, the expansion of the Protestant (formerly ‘Gereformeerde’) Marktpleinkerk at the Marktplein in Hoofddorp is complete and has been taken into use. The festive opening of the extension will take place on the 25th of May.
The new building has created a beautiful dedicated space for the youth. Additionally, the enlargement of the church has provided much more room for gatherings and for supporting functions such as a kitchen. These facilities were hardly present in the original church building.
The extension was built using an entirely wooden structure. Various materials were reused, and the heating system operates without gas. This makes the expansion sustainable and future-proof. With the renovation of the Marktpleinkerk, this iconic building in a central location in Hoofddorp now has a promising future.
The design for the expansion was created by Liesbeth van der Pol of Dok Architecten. She worked with great care, taking into account the existing church building, its atmosphere, and its location.
Remarkably, especially in this day and age, a church (particularly on this scale) is being expanded. Nationwide statistics show a decline in church attendance and the closure of church buildings, but the church board believes this step is important for the future of the church and the Protestant congregation.
