De Gereformeerde Kerk te Ermelo is bezig met de verkoop van de gereformeerde Maranathakerk aan de Sparrenlaan.
De voorbereidingen hiervoor zijn bijna afgerond en naar verwachting begint het officiële verkoopproces eind augustus, na de bouwvak. Hoewel de kerk nog niet officieel te koop staat, hebben zich al meerdere geïnteresseerde kopers gemeld.
De beslissing om afscheid te nemen van de Maranathakerk werd vorig jaar genomen. Volgens de gemeente biedt de gereformeerde Immanuelkerk voldoende ruimte voor kerkdiensten en andere activiteiten, waardoor alle gemeenteleden voortaan op één locatie samen kunnen komen. In het afgelopen jaar hebben een stuurgroep en verschillende werkgroepen onderzocht hoe deze verandering het beste kan worden uitgevoerd. Inmiddels is een makelaar ingeschakeld om de verkoop te begeleiden en zijn eerdere geïnteresseerden benaderd om te peilen of hun belangstelling nog steeds bestaat.
Geschiedenis.
De Maranathakerk heeft een lange geschiedenis. In de jaren vijftig groeide de Gereformeerde Kerk in Ermelo zo sterk dat een tweede kerkgebouw nodig was naast de Immanuelkerk. De kerk werd ontworpen door architect J. Rotshuizen en gebouwd door aannemer W. Kamphorst. De bouw kostte destijds ongeveer 200.000 gulden. Op 9 maart 1957 werd de eerste steen gelegd. De naam Maranatha betekent „Kom Heer”.
De verkoop van de kerk staat niet op zichzelf. In heel Nederland verliezen steeds meer kerken hun oorspronkelijke functie door teruglopende bezoekersaantallen en maatschappelijke veranderingen. In de afgelopen jaren zijn honderden kerkgebouwen verkocht, gesloten of voor andere doeleinden gebruikt. Verwacht wordt dat deze ontwikkeling zich de komende jaren voortzet, waardoor nog veel meer kerken een nieuwe bestemming zullen krijgen. Daardoor speelt de herbestemming van kerkgebouwen een steeds grotere rol binnen Nederlandse kerkelijke gemeenten.

The decision to part with the Maranatha Church was made last year. According to the congregation, the ‘gereformeerde’ Immanuel Church provides sufficient space for worship services and other activities, allowing all members of the congregation to gather at a single location in the future. Over the past year, a steering committee and several working groups have examined how best to implement this change. A real estate agent has now been appointed to oversee the sale, and previously interested parties have been contacted to determine whether they are still interested.
