‘Classicaal College’ hoort ‘bezwaarden’ tegen verkoop Zwolse Oosterkerk op 30 september 2026.
De verkoop van de protestantse (voormalig gereformeerde) Oosterkerk in Zwolle in 2028 blijft onderwerp van gesprek binnen de Protestantse Gemeente Zwolle. Tegen het besluit van de Algemene Kerkenraad om de kerk te verkopen, zijn bij de ‘Classicale Commissie Bezwaren en Geschillen’ ingediend.
De kerkenraad van de Oosterkerk heeft inmiddels besloten zelf geen bezwaar tegen het verkoopbesluit in te dienen. Individuele gemeenteleden en ambtsdragers hebben volgens de kerkorde echter wel het recht om persoonlijk bezwaar te maken. De kerkenraad benadrukt dat gemeenteleden elkaar daarin de ruimte moeten geven. Het indienen van bezwaar kan zowel op inhoudelijke als op procedurele gronden.
Een groep gemeenteleden heeft bezwaar gemaakt tegen het besluit vanwege zorgen over de toekomstige plaats van samenkomst. De groep zegt niet per se afwijzend te staan tegenover het besluit om de Oosterkerk te verkopen, maar wil duidelijkheid over de mogelijkheden voor de gemeente om in de toekomst samen te komen. Volgens de kerkenraad is het belangrijk dat de verschillende initiatieven en ideeën hierover open met elkaar worden gedeeld.
Daarnaast hebben andere gemeenteleden bezwaar gemaakt tegen de gevolgde procedure. Beide groepen, of vertegenwoordigers daarvan, worden op 30 september 2026 door het ‘Classicaal College voor de behandeling van Bezwaren en Geschillen‘ CCBG) gehoord. De commissie zal vervolgens de aangevoerde argumenten beoordelen. Het aantal ingediende bezwaren speelt daarbij geen rol.
Ook buiten de formele bezwaarprocedure hebben gemeenteleden gereageerd. Verschillende mensen hebben hun zorgen of standpunten in brieven aan de kerkenraad kenbaar gemaakt. De kerkenraad zegt alle reacties zorgvuldig en met respect te willen behandelen.
De kerkenraad benadrukt daarbij dat verbondenheid binnen de gemeente niet betekent dat iedereen het met elkaar eens hoeft te zijn. Wel vindt de kerkenraad het belangrijk dat er respect blijft voor verschillende standpunten en dat gemeenteleden met elkaar in gesprek blijven over de toekomst van de gemeente en de plaats waar zij samenkomt.
Eventueel kan men in beroep gaan bij het Generaal College voor de behandeling van Bezwaren en Geschillen van de PKN.

The proposed sale of the Protestant (formerly Reformed) Oosterkerk in Zwolle in 2028 remains a subject of discussion within the Protestant Church congregation of Zwolle. Objections to the decision by the General Church Council to sell the church have been submitted to the “Classical Commission for Objections and Disputes.”
The Oosterkerk church council has now decided not to file an objection of its own against the decision to sell the church. However, under church regulations, individual congregation members and office-bearers do have the right to lodge a personal objection. The church council stresses that congregation members should give one another the space to do so. An objection may be based either on substantive grounds or on procedural grounds.
One group of congregation members has objected to the decision because of concerns about where the congregation will meet in the future. The group says it is not necessarily opposed to the decision to sell the Oosterkerk, but wants clarity about the options for the congregation to meet in the future. According to the church council, it is important that the various initiatives and ideas concerning this issue are openly shared with one another.
Other congregation members have also objected to the procedure that was followed. Both groups, or their representatives, will be heard by the “Classical Commission for the Consideration of Objections and Disputes” (CCBG) on 30 September 2026. The commission will then assess the arguments that have been put forward. The number of objections submitted will not play a role in its assessment.
Congregation members have also responded outside the formal objection procedure. Several people have expressed their concerns or positions in letters to the church council. The council says it intends to deal with all of these responses carefully and respectfully.
The church council also emphasizes that unity within the congregation does not mean that everyone has to agree with one another. What the council considers important, however, is that different viewpoints continue to be respected and that congregation members remain in dialogue with one another about the future of the congregation and the place where it meets.
An appeal may, if necessary, be lodged with the General Commission for the Consideration of Objections and Disputes of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN).
