Met de restauratie van het voegwerk van het kerkschip gaat de Gereformeerde Kerk (PKN) te Andijk een nieuwe en tevens laatste grote fase van het herstel van het karakteristieke kerkgebouw in. Voor de werkzaamheden is een omvangrijke financieringsactie gestart onder de naam ‘Restauratie Kerkschip‘.
De totale restauratie kost naar verwachting ongeveer € 440.000. Hiervan wil de kerk zelf circa € 150.000 bijeenbrengen. Het resterende bedrag moet worden gedekt uit subsidies, fondsen en andere financieringsbronnen.
De inzamelingsactie richt zich niet alleen op leden van de kerk, maar nadrukkelijk ook op Andijkers, oud-Andijkers en het lokale bedrijfsleven. Volgens een woordvoerder van de Taakgroep Beheer is de kerk veel meer dan alleen een kerkgebouw: “De kerk is een herkenningspunt van Andijk en daarmee eigenlijk van iedereen.”
De restauratie vormt het vervolg op een reeks omvangrijke herstelwerkzaamheden die de afgelopen jaren zijn uitgevoerd, zoals de toren en de pastorie. In de periode van 2010 tot 2015 werden onder meer de fundering hersteld, het interieur teruggebracht in de oorspronkelijke staat, het dak voorzien van nieuwe leien en de toren gerestaureerd. Ook in de jaren daarna zijn nog verschillende herstel- en verbeteringswerkzaamheden uitgevoerd om het monument in goede staat te houden.
Dat opnieuw onderhoud nodig is, heeft volgens de kerk te maken met keuzes die bij de bouw rond 1930 zijn gemaakt. Door de economische omstandigheden van die tijd – het waren de economische crisisjaren ’30 – is op onderdelen bezuinigd op de gebruikte materialen. Daardoor zijn delen van het metselwerk sneller verouderd en is het voegwerk nu aan vervanging toe.
Met de restauratie wil de kerk het monument behouden voor toekomstige generaties. De Gereformeerde Kerk, een rijksmonument gebouwd in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School, vervult niet alleen een belangrijke functie voor de erediensten, maar is ook een geliefde locatie voor dorpsactiviteiten en culturele evenementen. Met het herstel van het kerkschip moet het markante gebouw ook in de toekomst zijn centrale plaats in de Andijker gemeenschap behouden.

Major Restoration of Andijk Church Gets Underway.
With the restoration of the masonry joints of the church nave, the ‘Gereformeerde’ Church (PKN) in Andijk is entering a new—and at the same time final—major phase in the preservation of its distinctive church building. To finance the work, an extensive fundraising campaign has been launched under the name “Restoration of the Church Nave.”
The total restoration is expected to cost approximately €440,000. Of this amount, the church aims to raise around €150,000 itself. The remaining funds are to be secured through government grants, charitable foundations, and other sources of funding.
The fundraising campaign is aimed not only at church members but also specifically at the people of Andijk, former residents of the village, and the local business community. According to a spokesperson for the Church Property Management Committee, the church is much more than just a place of worship: “The church is a landmark of Andijk and, in that sense, belongs to everyone.”
This restoration follows a series of major conservation projects carried out over the past several years, including work on the church tower and the parsonage. Between 2010 and 2015, the foundations were repaired, the interior was restored to its original appearance, the roof was re-covered with new slate tiles, and the tower underwent a complete restoration. In the years since, various additional repair and improvement projects have been undertaken to keep the listed monument in good condition.
According to the church, the need for further maintenance is the result of construction choices made around 1930. Owing to the economic conditions of the time—the years of the Great Depression—cost savings were made on certain building materials. As a result, parts of the brickwork have deteriorated more rapidly, and the mortar joints now require replacement.
Through this restoration, the church hopes to preserve the historic building for future generations. The ‘Gereformeerde’ Church, a nationally listed monument built in the Amsterdam School architectural style, serves not only as an important place of worship but also as a popular venue for community activities and cultural events. The restoration of the church nave will ensure that this prominent landmark continues to occupy its central place in the Andijk community for many years to come.
